Pulpit Freedom Day PDF Print E-mail

Pastors and churches are often confused about their right to speak truth from the pulpit on politicians and political issues. For 56 years, the IRS has wrongly attempted to silence pastors (the IRS code is over 3.4 million words long – almost five times longer than the Bible), and radical secularist groups such as Americans United for Separation of Church and State further attempt to intimidate churches and pastors into inaction.

Yet today, more than ever, a pastor's voice must be heard, and Biblical truth must be brought to bear on current issues, including those of candidates and elections. Pastors do have the right to speak Biblical truth from the pulpit without fear of censorship or punishment from the government. Alliance Defense Fund (ADF), a premier national legal group that defends the constitutional rights of Christians, has organized a concerted effort to push back against this unconstitutional government intrusion into the pulpit.

In 2008, ADF launched the Pulpit Initiative to protect the right of pastors to speak freely from the pulpit on any and all issues addressed by Scripture. That year, thirty-three pastors from twenty-two states participated in "Pulpit Freedom Sunday," addressing civil issues, candidates, and the upcoming elections from a Biblical perspective. In 2009, over eighty pastors from 30 states and the District of Columbia participated.

Rangers on the Border PDF Print E-mail

McAllen, Texas (AP) - Gov. Rick Perry has told just about anyone who will listen about his plan to dispatch elite teams of Texas Rangers to the border to do what he says the federal government won't -- keep Texans safe from encroaching Mexican drug violence.

Just don't ask him for specifics.

While the Ranger Recon initiative has served as a strong rhetorical counterpoint when Perry slams the federal government, details about what the taxpayer-funded teams actually accomplish remain a secret.

State officials insist they do not tally arrests or drug and property seizures under the program, which they say doesn't have its own budget after more than a year in operation. They say the Ranger Recon teams are paid out of the state's larger border security initiative, but decline to put a dollar figure on the program's costs. Nor will they say how many of the state's 144 Rangers, the top criminal investigators in Texas, participate or where the teams have been active.

Take it - Or - Take it PDF Print E-mail

One overlooked provision in the $26.1 billion states bailout that the House passed on Tuesday, and signed into law by Barack Obama, requires states to accept federal funds for public teachers — whether the state approves it or not.

According to Section 101(8) of H.R. 1586, as a part of the $10 billion fund for states education spending, if a governor fails to apply for funding within 30 days, “the Secretary shall provide for funds allocated to that State to be distributed to another entity or other entities in the State … for support of elementary and secondary education, under such terms and conditions as the Secretary may establish.”

FCC Regulations Called to Task PDF Print E-mail

A wide-ranging group  of American citizens from hundereds of different organizations have signed on to a petition in strong opposition to the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) effort to regulate the Internet.

Over the past 25 years, the Internet has flourished in large part due to the extremely limited role that government has played. In less than a decade, the private sector has expanded broadband Internet access to over 95 percent of American households. Since 2004, the price to access the Internet has dropped by 23 percent, while during the same period overall consumer prices have trended upward.

Ramnesty Headed Down the Pike? PDF Print E-mail

Barack Obama's Justice Department is not suing the State of Arizona simply to pander to his extreme liberal base. The sad and shameful truth is that Obama's lawsuit against Arizona’s tough new immigration law is part of a grand scheme to ram Amnesty for millions of illegal aliens down the throats of the American people

That’s right. Just as Obama and the Pelosi-Reid Congress rammed ObamaCare, the so-called Stimulus bill and other government takeovers down our throats, they are now planning to force through an Amnesty bill against the wishes of the American people.

Simply put, ANY attempt to secure the border – something the federal government refuses to do – foils their Amnesty plans.

Actions are underway to stop it. Senators Jim DeMint (R-SC) and David Vitter (R-LA) have introduced an amendment that would expressly prohibit the Obama Justice Department from participating in lawsuits that seek to invalidate the Arizona immigration law
